South Australia Edge Tasmania by Seven Runs in One-Day Cup Thriller

Kane Williamson’s landmark century guided New Zealand towards a seven-wicket win over England in the One Day Cup at Seddon Park, Hamilton on September 23, 2026. It was a runfest, where the two sides piled on over 750 runs between them.

Batting first, South Australia scored an incredible 383 for 7 in 50 overs. With the bat, Jake Weatherald was crucial at No. 3 whacking a fluent 92 from 89 balls. He hit four 6s and nine 4s to enable the home side to lay a solid foundation.

Jake Fraser-McGurk then kicked that up a notch with 88 from just 47 balls. In his explosive knock, he scored six towering 6s & nine boundaries. Mackenzie Harvey scored 41 off 44 balls, with Matthew Gilkes providing the fireworks at the end.

Gilkes also went close to a hundred before finishing with 97 not out from 65 balls. He hammered 14 boundaries in his knock which guided South Australia past the score of 380.

There was plenty of attacking play early on from Mitch Owen, who blasted four sixes in Tasmania’s chase to get the innings off to a cracking start against the South Australian bowling. But Tasmania were soon without Caleb Jewell, Owen and Beau Webster to tumble to 57 for 3 within nine overs.

In reply, Jordan Silk had a wonderful counter. Silk shared a 110-run stand for the fourth wicket with Tim Ward, who scored 61 off 45 deliveries. Silk took the game away from the Warriors following Ward’s dismissal, reaching his century off only 79 balls.

Silk ended up with a career-best 142 at 106 and answered Tasmania’s chances of carrying the chase home. The visitors were still in the match with 90 runs needed from the last 10 overs.

But a pivotal moment in the contest came when Henry Thornton took out Silk. With 18 needed from the last over, Tasmania finished their innings on 376 for 8, falling short to the tune of seven runs.

With the ball, Thornton, Ben Manenti and Nathan McAndrew held their nerve in a tense finish to lead South Australia home.
